30 ,000 Stand Up To Racism

Up to 30,000 people attended the Stand UP To Racism march held in central London on Saturday March 18th.

A number of Birmingham members attended and the crowd marched from BBC Portand Place  to Paliament Square.

The story was also carried in the national papers with The Guardian reporting that

"Anti-racism supporters carrying signs with colourful slogans including “Migrants make our NHS” and “Black Lives Matter” led a peaceful but spirited march through the fashionable thoroughfares of Regent Street and Haymarket, banging drums and singing songs."

Speakers included the former Guantánamo Bay prisoner Moazzam Begg. He is from Birmingham's Pakistani community. Most speakers spoke out against populism, nationalism , Donald Trump and the Far Right.
