Clancy 0 Manzie 1

So Clancy has gone. The Leader resigned with immediate effect. Did he jump before he was pushed (by a vote of confidence) or was the Mail story about his daughter, getting too much into personal matters for his comfort? Maybe he felt the profile wasn't worth it? He semmed to allude to this in his resignation letter.

Ian Ward is the caretaker manger, for the moment. It looks like the right and left of the Labour council will be slinging it out for the title of Leader again.

Who's won in this battle ? Some would say Stella Manzie is one "winner" as she stays as Cheif Exec.

Meanwhile UNITE's Len McClusky is one of many voices telling her to go as it's been reported by the local media that she is seen by them as a stumbling block to the deal that was put  on the table and hastily withdrawn, or disputed, depending on who you believe. He called for her to go at  a rally which took place outside the Council House on Sunday 17th September. Although primarily a UNITE dispute there are some Unison members involved.

In the media it's also been reported that the hard liners in BCC have begun to send out what some are seeing as hard line  letters to employees. This persumably has done nothing to soften the Union's resolve. Indeed a high court hearing brought by Unite is in place to figure out what happens next.

So no out right winners yet - but this writer hopes for a sensible end to it all soon.
