What is UNISON?

About Unison

Hello and welcome to our branch website.  We hope you will find this a useful place and resource to learn about the Birmingham branch of UNISON and what we do and find out the latest on current issues.

UNISON Birmingham Branch has 15,000 members providing a wide range of services to the people of Birmingham.  If you are not a member and work in the public sector, why not join us and benefit from the support, services and strength that being a member of UNISON can provide.

We hope you will find this site useful for information on our current campaigns, branch issues and in finding your branch contacts.

UNISON is Britain's second biggest union with more than 1.4 million members - people working in public services such as in Local Government or the NHS, for private contractors providing public services and in the essential utilities. UNISON is a national, campaigning union and over three quarters of our members are women.

The branch is represented by elected branch officers and directorate stewards who focus on specific issues that affect members and on ensuring all members that need individual representation receive it. Our workplace stewards are a member's first point of call for any enquiries and workplace contacts are well placed to update members about branch issues.

Branch activities include negotiating and campaigning on local issues such as around our contracts of employment, HR Policies and Procedures and equal pay, we also provide workplace and after work lifelong learning activities for all members.
